I thought i'd knock up this quick blog page to give people an insight to the John O' Groats to Lands End cycle we embark on Tuesday.
Firstly for those who don't know, this trip was set up after some interest was shown in doing the trip during a Sunday club run. After a bit of research into routes and accommodation (and an excellent offer of support from Simon's Dad) we realised we could organise the trip ourselves fairly easily and saves ourselves a lot of money than doing it with a JOGLE/LEJOG company. The finalised riders for the trip are Simon Bain, Andy Cattanach, Lorna Ferguson, Steve Fleming (Simon's cousin and honorary GGCC member for the duration of the trip), David Lowe, Sam McIntosh, James Murray and James Reily. Unfortunately Paul Roche had to withdraw due to work commitments.
The plan, for those who might be interested in doing something similar in the future, is to take the train to Thurso on Monday and embark on a 10 day, 1000 mile route down the west side of the UK. After reaching LE we will fly back to Glasgow from Exeter.
The main reason for putting up this blog was so that we could share our planned route. I'll happily give a review of any of the routes we are taking after the trip for people thinking about organising their own JOGLE. Most of the routes were planned by Jim, with a bit of help at times from myself, so i guess we'll be taking most of the blame when the lovely country roads turn into pothole ridden dirt tracks!
Day 1 - JOG / Durness (91 Miles)
